An Open Letter to Andy Roddick

Dear Andy,

I hope that today, instead of mourning your loss to Roger Federer, you are celebrating the irrepressible skill, talent, and artistry that you exhibited during the men’s finals at Wimbledon. You are an extraordinary athlete, and it was a thrill to see you play what must have been some of the best tennis of your life.

And yes…one day soon, your name will be up there as a winner of the tournament.

An Open Letter to Rafael Nadal

Dear Rafa,

Congratulations on your Wimbledon win. I think you’re an extraordinary tennis player, and your ability to get to the ball every time is a tribute to your spectacular athleticism. To round out the package, you have the most amazing biceps, making it a treat to watch you on the court for a variety of reasons.

So, why—when you have so much going for you—do you continue to do this?

My fear is that you’ll go down in history as the fabulous questionable-gesture player, and that’s just not fair to you.
