The greatest benefit of the purge so far: discovering an envelope filled with savings bonds (matured ones!) for my two sons in the back of a desk drawer. I have no idea why they were there instead of in our safe deposit box, but the boys were thrilled.
Alas, they want to use the money to buy a new flat-screen TV. I guess the concept of found money (translation: you are so lucky to have this, so sock it away for when you really, really need it) is lost on a 26- and a 20-year-old.
