The 2020 Golden Globes: The Night of the Sleeve

“This year,” said stylist A to her red-carpet client, “I think you should make a statement with a bold sleeve.”

Down the street, stylist B urged, “A dramatic sleeve is definitely the way to go.”

Across town, stylist C enthused, “A huge sleeve! It will be amazingly original!”

And so it must have gone prior to the Golden Globes, because it was clearly the night of the big, bold, dramatic sleeve. Alas, some fared better than others.

IMHO, these were all a miss:

Gwenyth Paltrow – I can honestly say I’ve never seen anything more hideous: from style to color, it’s a complete monstrosity. Followed by Cate Blanchett, Jodie Comer, Olivia Coleman, Lucy Boynton, and Dakota Fanning.

Oh, wait…that’s it. Seems I didn’t like any of the poofy-sleeved dresses at all.

I did, however, like the ensembles worn by Ana de Armas, Cynthia Erivo, Zoe Kravatz, Kate McKinnon, and the inimitable Dame Helen.

Because I’m so skilled at being cynical, here are a few additions to my what-were-you-thinking?! list: Kerry Washington, Jennifer Lopez, Salma Hayak, and Michelle Williams.
