I’m happy to report that there were lots of pretty terrific dresses at the 2016 Golden Globe Awards…so many that I’m not even bothering to mention the misses. Following is my take on the winning ensembles:
Dame Helen Mirren
A little bit of good. A little bit of bad. A lot of indifferent. It’s disappointing to watch an awards show featuring so many dresses that generate little reaction other than “meh.”
On the bright side, I thought these were winners:
Elizabeth Moss in Oscar de la Renta
Helen Mirren in Badgley Mischka
Jennifer Lopez in Valentino
Misty Copeland in Herve Leger
The biggest failures of the evening:
Rose Byrne in Delpozo
Rita Wilson in Tom Ford
Amber Valletta in Anthony Vaccarello
Carey Mulligan in Balenciaga
It’s all so subjective. I loved dresses that others panned…I chuckled at gowns that others thought were glorious. So here it is…one more person’s (pretty much) irrelevant opinions.
Naomi Watts – That black band makes it look like she’s wearing a gown over a tube top.
Solange Knowles – Too. Much. Fabric.
Chrissy Teigen – Not enough fabric.
Felicity Jones – Overwhelming, but not in a good way.
Jennifer Lopez – If boob tape didn’t exist, she’d never have anything to wear.
Lorelei Linklater – I know she’s just a kid, but this is trying way too hard to be a grown-up…the wrong kind of grown-up.
Perhaps you’d better try again next year:
