Last night, the less-is-more dresses were the ones that resonated for me. Case in point:
The dresses that didn’t do anyone any favors:
Actresses showed their solidarity against sexual harassment and assault in the entertainment industry by wearing black at last night’s Golden Globes. From a fashion perspective, their dresses were among the best I’ve ever seen at an awards event, because…well…black.
My picks for the night:
The ones who managed to screw up something as basic as black:
And just for good measure: I give you Amy Sherman Palladino
The clear winner at last night’s Oscars was 16-year-old Auli’i Cravalho, and I’m not saying that just because my friend Sam Saboura styled her. I’m saying that because he did a spectacular job, and she looked stunning in everything she wore.
Other dresses and wearers worthy of praise:
Taraji P. Henson
Dresses that missed the mark:
I’m happy to report that there were lots of pretty terrific dresses at the 2016 Golden Globe Awards…so many that I’m not even bothering to mention the misses. Following is my take on the winning ensembles:
Dame Helen Mirren
Alas, last night’s awards show was probably the worst-written thing I’ve ever seen. Andy Samberg was positively goofy, and he seemed to elicit more groans than laughs…in my household, anyway.
The fashions didn’t exactly dazzle me either. While there are a few that made it to my good list, I lost count on the bads. These are the ones I liked:
Lady Gaga [There’s more after her. WordPress is into massive spacing today.]
Jamie Lee Curtis
Alan Cumming: Because…Alan Cumming!
The ones that missed missed by a mile:
Heidi Klum: aka Big Bird
Joanna Newsom: Every woman should wear a dinner plate on her chest.
Naomi Watts: This dress requires some serious hoiking up.
Naomi Grossman: I can see your belly button, but I’m guessing that’s what you had in mind.
Nazanin Boniadi: Illusion netting at its worst
Padma Lakshmi: Ghastly color and at least one size too small
